************************************ HIGH QUALITY FS98 SOUND PACKAGE FOR THE BAC/AEROSPATIALE CONCORDE SST ************************************ Mixed and Modified by Leon "pancreas" Medado (medado@info.com.ph) (see ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS section for names of the authors of the originals) Freeware released during May, 1999 Version 1.0 ***This is not the complete document!*** ***Please download lm_ConcordeSndPck.ZIP for the other sections.*** Please enable word wrapping to view this document in Notepad. DESCRIPTION: -A complete high-quality sound package that replaces all default sounds with either modified FS98 sounds or original mixes. For use with any BAC/Aerospatiale Concorde or Tupolev TU-144 aircraft with a captain’s cockpit view. Features a wide dynamic sound range, stereo internal AND external engine sounds, improved cockpit sounds, and more... FEATURES IN-DEPTH: -Dynamic sound performance created using Achim Buerger-style multiple sound components and large volume differences between sound files. Both engine sound viewpoints contain at least 4 sound files for varying degrees of thrust, mainly: IDLE, HIGH throttle, pseudo-AFTerburners, and a max throttle sound (AFTHIGH). Read the documentation in Achim Buerger's sound packages for more info on this technique. -External stereo sounds use echo and reverberation effects to retain central positioning -Improved cockpit sounds (taken from the B737) featuring less noise, a higher pitch, and almost-realistic touchdown sounds -Will work best with the Concorde SST featured in AETI's Professional Flight Collection Vol. II: "The Next Generation" (not required). Also suitable for a Tupolev TU-144 (not tested). -Cockpit sounds use Microsoft ADPCM compression to reduce filesize (engine sounds remain uncompressed to retain quality). BACKGROUND: Let me start off by saying that these are not authentic BAC/Aerospatiale Concorde sounds, thus I have made no claims that this sound pack is realistic. You might find some authentic sounds in other commercial packages, but I do not intend to further leave the freeware community at a loss because of the lack of high quality sounds for this one-of-a-kind aircraft. Note that in using these files you may notice that the idling sound is very soft (especially for a Concord). This is intentional. I meant to capture the dynamics associated with jet engines (including the loud exhaust gas and vibration at higher throttle settings) without too much resulting distortion and within the confines of FS98's dynamic range. Just make the volume louder if your system and your ears can handle it. If you do own AETI's PFC Vol. II: TNG, you may notice that the idling sound sounds very similar to the one included with the product. Originally, I did use that exact sound, but due to copyright restrictions I had to look for my own. In the process, I found a file that sounds exactly like it, and it wasn't meant for the Concorde so they're definitely not authentic (see ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS). I don't know whether this is another case of a commercial developer stealing assets from a lowly freeware developer but regardless, this is the sound I ended up using without violating any commercial copyright restrictions. ACKNOWLEDGEMENTS: Achim Buerger -the sound.cfg "multiple sound component" concept. I have tried contacting as many of the following authors (through e-mail) as possible, for permission to use their files: David Pinero -> cncrdsnd.zip -parts of the wind and high throttle sounds -permission granted Scooter -> 747Wavs.zip -parts of the wind noise Serge Baye -> fssound.zip -part of the external engine exhaust noise "B.J" -> b707snd.zip -part of the external engine exhaust noise -has not replied so far Chris Mestler -> f-100wav.zip -part of the external engine exhaust noise -had not replied so far Philip Geddes -> airlnsnz.zip -part of the internal engine sound Stephan Barthelmes -> sbjet.zip -main engine idling sound Whoever I took everything else from.
