TURN ON WORD WRAP ----------------- San Antonio, Texas scenery ------------------------------------------------------------ By Ben Kirk and James Shaddox This zip file contains highly detailed enhanced scenery for San Antonio, Texas. It includes scenery for downtown San Antonio, which is entirely missing from the default FS scenery, and it also includes previously released scenery for Randolph Air Force Base, located near San Antonio. The default FS scenery has no buildings whatsover for anything outside of San Antonio International Airport, and this scenery is designed to remedy that situation. If you like scenery which looks like the actual city it depicts, rather than generic FS buildings, then this is for you. There are many custom designed buildings for downtown and Randolph AFB, designed by James Shaddox, as well as ground textures designed by Ben Kirk which are based on the actual landscape. These textures accurately depict the greater San Antonio metropolitan area, including highways and city streets. Some of the custom structures which you'll find here include the Alamo, the Alamodome, Tower Life building, convention center, Riverwalk Mall, major hotels, and lots more. Some recommendations for the fullest enjoyment of the scenery ( or any other FS scenery, for that matter) are a Pentium II running at least 233 Mhz and a 3D accelerator card such as a Monster 3D. Comments are welcomed. Reach James Shaddox at Mrshad@compuserve.com INSTALLATION ------------ In the main scenery directory of FS98, create a new folder for the files and name it something like "San Antonio" (or whatever you'd like), within that folder create two other new folders entitled "scenery" and "texture", unzip all .bgl files (except for rnddyn.bgl and satdyn.bgl--see below) into "scenery" and the texture files (all .r8 and .pat files) into "texture"...start FS98 and go into the "Scenery Library" mode. Under "Add Files", create a path to the new scenery. Here's mine, for example: C:\FS6\SCENERY\SAT\SCENERY\*.BGL After creating the path, hit "OK", activate the scenery with the pushbutton on that page, and return to the simulator. Under the Go To menu, select Texas and under airport select San Antonio International or Randolph AFB. You should find yourself sitting on the runway of the airfield you selected. DYNAMIC SCENERY INSTALLATION: Under the main FS98 scenery directory, create a new one called "dyn". Under that directory, create one named "scenery" and place rnddyn.bgl an satdyn.bgl in there. Start FS98 and go into the "Scenery Library" mode. Under "Add Files", create a path to the new scenery, thusly: C:\FS6\SCENERY\DYN\SCENERY\*.BGL Hit "OK", activate the scenery with the pushbutton on that page, and return to the simulator. To see the dynamic scenery, go to the "world" menu in FS, go to "dynamic scenery" and click on "very dense" and all of the dynamic traffic options. What you'll get is a Cessna shooting touch-and-goes at San Antonio International, some commercial airliners as well, and you'll see military jets doing touch-and-goes at Randolph AFB. Note: If you already have the previous scenery for Randolph AFB, rafb.zip, you need only replace rafb1.bgl, because it has some improvements to some of the houses on base. The rest is the same as the previous release. ------------------------------------------ NAVIGATION FREQUENCIES are as listed in the FS 98 Airport/Facility Directory, under Texas/San Antonio International and Texas/Universal City - Randolph AFB.
