Hyperwave Publishing Wizard Version 1.0 Beta-1 ============================================== February 28, 1997 What is this? ------------- The Hyperwave Publishing Wizard (HPW) is a tool designed to make the process of publishing documents to a Hyperwave server as simple as possible. It is compatible with Microsoft’s WebPost API and plugs into Microsoft’s Web Publishing Wizard, which means that you can publish documents directly from most new Microsoft programs. You can also upload whole directory trees that you have prepared on your local disk to a Hyperwave server with just a few mouse clicks! Where do I get it? ------------------ The software is available from ftp://ftp.hyperwave.com/pub/HyperWave/Tools/HPW (this is in sunny California) and the mirror servers listed at http://www.iicm.edu/hyperwave/mirrors How do I install it? -------------------- In order to use HPW, you must have: - Windows 95 or Windows NT 4.0 - TCP/IP properly set up - Microsoft’s Web Publishing Wizard (WPW) The WPW is bundled with many Microsoft products (including Office97, FrontPage, Publisher, and Creative Writer). You can also get it free from the Internet (http://www.microsoft.com/windows/software/webpost). For your convenience, it is also available from where you got this file, under the name WEBPOST.EXE. You should install the WPW (just execute WEBPOST.EXE) - unless you have it already - before or after you install the HPW by executing HPW.EXE. How do I use it? ---------------- After successful installation, the WPW inserts itself into the "send to" popup menu of the Explorer (hold down the right mouse button on a file or directory). When you select "send to/Web Publishing Wizard" you are guided through the process of uploading files/directories to a server on the Internet. After installation of the HPW, you will see a menu item "Hyperwave Server" listed under the "new" button on the third screen of the wizard. This invokes the Hyperwave Publishing Wizard. The remaining stages should be self-explanatory. You may also invoke the wizard by dragging the file or directory to be published onto the WPW icon (after you have placed it on your desktop), if you prefer. Also, some programs (like FrontPage) explicitly offer a "publish" button, so that you can upload documents directly from the program. Hint: The Wizard remembers settings from previous upload sessions, so that you can proceed more quickly through later uploads. To fully utilize this feature, you should use symbolic names ("meeting announcements") for different places and settings in your server, rather than physical host names as Web server names. Release Notes ------------- This is the first beta release of the HPW. The following are known bugs/shortcomings which will be fixed in forthcoming versions: - It is available in English only. Moreover, all uploaded documents are inserted as English documents (even if they are really in some other language). This may affect results of fulltext searches. - It sometimes does not correctly recognize MIME types of the documents uploaded. - There should be the possibility to set all kinds of attributes for the uploaded objects.
